Frequently Asked Questions

Don't see an answer to your question? Don't hesitate to get in touch. SureCam is your partner in fast and easy fleet video and tracking solutions.

Why do businesses choose forward-facing dash camera views over other options?

We offer a variety of camera views at SureCam, with the road-facing-only dash cam being one of our most popular options. Customers who choose a forward-facing dash camera are primarily concerned with capturing high-quality video evidence of road-facing incidents while maintaining the trust and privacy of their employees. This is also our most cost-effective dash cam option, so great for getting employees comfortable with having a connected dash cam record while they're driving.

Our road-facing dash cameras do not have a microphone or a secondary lens to capture footage from inside the vehicle. Dash cam footage will only be of the road ahead.

Is a front-facing dash cam enough for evidence, or do I need a dual dash cam?

A front-facing dash cam is enough! Many fleets opt for a forward-facing connected dash camera solution instead of a front and rear camera setup. Front-facing dash cams help resolve liability when incidents occur, alert safety managers to harsh driving, and provide opportunities for driver coaching on-road awareness. Rear cameras are great to have too but are not always necessary for evidence to hold up. If a collision occurs in the rear or side of the vehicle, forward-facing dash cams can often still resolve liability without the need for rear dash cams.

Due to the connected nature of the dash camera, fleet operators get instant notifications when incidents occur, often enabling them to send the video evidence directly to the driver to aid in the information gathering for the police report.

How quickly can I access and view video from SureCam dash cameras?

You can generally view video from your SureCam devices within seconds. There are three types of video made available to you from SureCam.

Event Video: This is video that is captured when a g-force or alert-based event takes place. For example, if you want to capture dash cam video when harsh braking or excessive speeding events occur, this is considered an event video. These videos are automatically uploaded to the SureCam platform and available for you to review and download for up to 60 days.

Continuous Video: This is the historic minute-by-minute video that is recorded while your vehicles are running. SureCam devices come standard with 50 hours of continuous video storage, so after 50 hours of drive time, this video records over itself. You can easily view continuous video from the SureCam platform as long as it is still available on your device.

Real-Time Video: This is optional live video that is available to you while your vehicles are turned on and connected to the cellular network. You must adjust settings to have SureCam LiveCheck enabled on your account to access the real-time video.

Can I access dash cam video even if a harsh driving incident did not occur?

Absolutely! Harsh driving triggered videos, referred to as Event Videos, are great for quickly responding to incidents and ultimately identifying and correcting risky driving behaviors before accidents occur. But there are other reasons that you may want access to video outside of a harsh driving event and we make this video, referred to as Continuous Video, available for you to access remotely from the SureCam platform.

What happens to the video if my vehicle is out of range of the cellular network?

Have no fear; all of your video and underlying data are still being recorded, even if your vehicle temporarily drives out of range of the cellular network. As soon as your vehicle drives back in range, your SureCam device will re-establish its connection, videos will be uploaded, and the tracking data will be backfilled in our cloud-based platform.

What types of safety alerts are available through SureCam?

Safety alerts through SureCam include harsh braking, hard cornering, fast acceleration, and speeding. The sensitivity level for these alerts can be configured remotely to best meet the needs of your business. The goal is to track and alert what is most urgent and important while protecting you from being overloaded with data.

What type of fleet management alerts are available through SureCam?

There are a wide variety of fleet management alerts and reports available through SureCam, including geofencing-based alerts, curfew alerts, hours-driven or miles-driven alerts, as well as many others. To understand the full range of alerts and reports available through SureCam, it is best to schedule a call and see how our platform would be configured for your specific use case.

How accurate is the GPS data provided by SureCam?

SureCam devices ping the SureCam servers every 10 seconds when the vehicle is in use. Most customers with previous GPS tracking experience find that the speed and accuracy of our location tracking are more reliable than their previous provider.

How many user licenses do I get with my subscription?

We offer an unlimited number of user licenses with your subscription. We want you to be able to set up your account and workgroups in a way that will best allow you to manage the safety of your field team, so we allow you to decide who should get access to the SureCam platform and how much access you want to give them. To understand the various ways you can structure your account, it is best to schedule a call and see the options available.

What does the forward-facing dash cam installation process look like?

The installation process is simple and seamless. The SureCam forward-facing dash camera mounts to the inside of the windshield using commercial-grade adhesive tape that ensures the hardware is secure through road vibrations and constant sun exposure. The base device is wired directly into the power source of the vehicle using a simple three-wire installation. The SureCam system can be self-installed using our step-by-step installation verification web tool or fitted through one of SureCam’s verified installers.

Do SureCam dash cameras come with a warranty?

We like to keep things simple and straightforward. Your SureCam hardware is covered under warranty for as long as you have an active rental subscription agreement. If you have issues with a dash camera that can't be quickly resolved remotely, we will ship you a replacement. Hassle-free.

Now if a camera was lost or destroyed in an accident, a modest replacement fee will apply. We are always happy to talk more about that.

Can I start with forward-facing dash cams and switch to other camera views at a later date?

Absolutely! The SureCam monthly subscription program allows you to easily change up your preferred camera views as your business needs change. Once installed, our forward-facing dash cameras can be easily swapped for different configurations.

Can video captured by dash cameras be used for insurance claims and accident litigation?

Absolutely! There is no better evidence than a dash cam video to speed up the insurance claims process and outright dismiss false accident claims made against your business. In fact, SureCam customers see an average reduction of 62% in claims costs after implementing our dash cam technology.
