From Dashcams to a Connected Ecosystem: How Enterprise Flex-E-Rent Is Scaling Fleet Safety With SureCam

Enterprise Flex-E-Rent doesn't just manage its own fleet. As one of the UK and Ireland's leading commercial vehicle hire providers, its 100-vehicle mobile service van fleet is responsible for keeping 67,000 Enterprise-owned and customer vehicles road-ready. That means 100 technicians driving to sites across two countries every day, working alone, carrying valuable tools, and representing the Enterprise brand at every stop.
That's a lot of operational risk riding on a lot of vehicles. It's also exactly the kind of complexity that a single point solution can't solve on its own, which is why Enterprise Flex-E-Rent has spent the last four years building something more ambitious: a connected fleet ecosystem.
The starting point: video evidence and theft deterrence
Enterprise Flex-E-Rent's relationship with SureCam started in 2022 with a specific, practical problem. Mobile technicians carry expensive tools between job sites, and incidents on the road (or at the roadside) needed indisputable evidence to resolve fairly and quickly.
The answer was a bespoke front and rear-facing dashcam solution, purpose-built to do two jobs at once: capture reliable video evidence for incident investigations, and deter, detect, and record tool theft events. Three years in, that foundation is still running across the full 100-vehicle fleet.
But a dashcam program that works is a starting point, not a finish line. Enterprise Flex-E-Rent's team started asking a bigger question: what else could a connected fleet do?
Building an ecosystem, not a stack of point solutions
"We are looking at how we can leverage more from technology as part of our ambitious fleet digitisation strategy," says James Walker, Group SMR Manager at Enterprise Flex-E-Rent. "Working closely with SureCam and its partners, we are using complementary tools, integrated with our internal systems, to create a connected fleet solution that improves safety and eliminates risk, while supporting a highly efficient and productive operation."
That strategy is now expanding well past dashcams, using SureCam's video-enabled telematics ecosystem to bring specialist technology partners together under one connected approach:
- Lone worker protection with Peoplesafe. With 100 technicians working solo across job sites in the UK and Ireland, Enterprise Flex-E-Rent has adopted Peoplesafe's lone worker service so support is always on hand, no matter where a technician is or what they're dealing with.
- AI-powered fleet management with Optimize. Rather than stopping at route optimisation, Enterprise Flex-E-Rent is working with Optimize to apply AI across broader fleet management decisions, turning fleet data into operational intelligence.
- Video telematics as the connective layer. SureCam's ecosystem approach means these tools aren't bolted together after the fact. They're designed to integrate with each other and with Enterprise Flex-E-Rent's internal systems from the start.
Why the ecosystem model matters
For fleet operators evaluating their own technology roadmap, the Enterprise Flex-E-Rent story is a useful case in point: safety, security, and efficiency aren't separate problems that need separate vendors. They're connected problems that benefit from connected solutions.
"This valued partnership is a perfect example of how the video-enabled ecosystem is designed to work, bringing together technology specialists to develop integrated solutions that tackle complex fleet challenges," says Sam Footer, Partnership Director of SureCam. "We are working closely with the Enterprise Flex-E-Rent team to drive innovation in the connected fleet space to deliver smarter, safer and more productive operations."
There's a second layer to this that matters for anyone running a fleet-dependent business: the value doesn't stop at your own fleet. Walker points to the same connected approach as a differentiator for Enterprise Flex-E-Rent's own customers.
"The connected technology approach is benefiting our own fleet and providing return on investment but also enabling us to deliver powerful fleet management services to our customers," Walker adds. "Our aspiration is to give our customers the information and insight needed to run their businesses effectively. We are, therefore, working with fleet technology partners to make this a reality."
What's next
SureCam and Enterprise Flex-E-Rent aren't done. Footer confirms SureCam will be supporting a calendar of depot days across the UK and Ireland to showcase what an integrated technology approach looks like in practice, giving fleet operators a firsthand look at how the ecosystem comes together on the ground.
For fleet managers weighing where to start, or how to move from a single tool to a genuinely connected strategy, Enterprise Flex-E-Rent's approach offers a clear model: start with a specific, high-value problem, prove it out, and use that foundation to build toward the bigger picture.
